The Metrolinx regional tour has been traveling the region over the summer, stopping at local community events and festivals. Our staff are answering questions about Metrolinx transit projects, while connecting how they fit into our larger vision for an integrated transportation system across the region.
We made five stops in July. Close to home, we chatted with GO commuters at Whitby and Oakville GO Stations, and then branched out and visited local Ribfests in Whitby and Mississauga. Mid-month, rapid cars met rapid transit at the Honda Indy where our mock light rail vehicle (or LRV) was on display, and staff gave a preview of things to come.
GO also debuted the brand new double-decker buses this month. Beyond the excitement of increasing our fleet size and enabling more service, these buses are lower and able to clear bridges. Up until now, our double-deckers weren’t able to serve Union Station, Hamilton, York Mills and Yorkdale bus terminals. These ones can.
In other news, Mount Pleasant GO Station now has 223 more parking spaces…and something really special happened in late July when GO staff and riders came together to help a distressed Syrian family. A truly remarkable story.
