GO fares to be cut to $3 in Toronto

905 also gets new discounted fare in provincial budget plan

GO Transit’s base fare will be cut to $3 in the City of Toronto, according to Ontario’s budget, released Wednesday.

Customers using PRESTO travelling to and from stations just outside Toronto’s borders will also see the price to get on the GO fall. Travel between GO stops and stations less than 10km apart will drop to $3 as well.

The other significant announcement for Metrolinx in the budget is a new Discounted Double Fare between the TTC and transit systems in the 905 region, mirroring the GO-TTC offer that started in January. That means a discount of up to $1.50 on the current TTC-905 double fare when commuters use their PRESTO card to make a combined journey.

It’s expected more than 60,000 customers will be eligible for this discounted fare between the TTC and carriers, including York Region Transit, MiWay, Brampton Transit and Durham Region Transit. This discount could save customers who go between the 905 transit providers and the TTC $720 a year.

These budget announcements are great news for commuters who may want to consider new travel options. It’s huge progress for moving customers, as well as the TTC and GO working effortlessly together to improve everyone’s commute.

Both of these announcements also show the significant progress being achieved on fare integration, a major focus for Metrolinx, which will help drive more ridership to transit across the region.

Commuters using UP Express to travel between Union Station and Bloor or Weston will also see the reduced fare. However, the fare for service to and from Toronto Pearson will remain the same.

Seniors, youth and child GO Transit fares will also be discounted under this plan.
