GO Bear and a Metrolinx embassador set up for children making their way through Union Station during March Break.

Oh, the Places Your kids can now GO!

Travelling on GO Transit is now free for kids 12 and under. And you may want to look outside, because it’s time to explore again.

For Debbie Varadas, the first day of March break wasn’t free and easy. But it was pretty close to that.

The Whitby mom and her young son jumped aboard a GO train and headed to Union Station on March 11, looking to share some bonding time and take in a Toronto Marlies hockey game.

The trip was made easier by weather that was finally worth venturing outside for, and a GO deal that couldn’t be passed up on. Kids 12 and under can now ride for free on GO Transit.

That meant kids rule this week across The Greater Golden Horseshoe during the school break – and many of those children were riding gratis on GO.

“Today, the reason why we took the train was because it was free so we made a decision to come down,” said Varadas, adding it was convenient way to travel and “saved me some money.

“We do have more plans so now that I know the GO train is free we might travel this way instead of driving or another way.”

Nearby, Heather Catterson, from Cambridge, travelled with her two sons, Eric, 6 and Ryan, 4, using GO Transit, as they headed to a day at Ripley’s Aquarium.

Knowing her kids can now ride for free, the mom noted her family will just have to see where GO takes them in the future.
