Popular service meant for cyclists heading to Niagara region has been extended in time to keep you moving in November.
For many, keeping fit during a pandemic has meant a balance – often on two wheels.
Cycling has become a go-to outdoor activity during the fight against COVID-19, as physical distancing and the need to get outside to work muscles and mind have become a priority.
Metrolinx has some good news for bike riders who love biking in Niagara Region. Metrolinx will bring the bike coaches out of winter retirement for a couple more weeks on the Niagara weekend trains.
The bike coaches will be available this coming weekend (Nov. 7-8) and the following weekend (Nov. 14-15).
Toronto cyclist Derek Smith was happy to hear that bike coaches will be available on the Niagara weekend trains while the weather is still warm enough for cycling.
“Ensuring that transit is bike-friendly helps people stay active outdoors, which is important during the pandemic,” Smith said.
“It also helps bring valuable customers to small businesses across the Niagara region.”
The weekend Niagara trains each feature six coaches, and three of them are outfitted to accommodate up to 18 bikes. For more information, head to the GO Transit website and use the trip planning tool to figure out your trip.
And here’s some good news for pocketbooks: Niagara Parks will also resume the combined Niagara Parks GO Travel Packages + local WEGO bus connection.
And remember, Kids GO Free.
Before grabbing your bike and helmet and heading to the train also remember that face coverings are mandatory.
As the virus continues to circulate in the community – we know we repeat them, but they are important – everyone is reminded of the basics from public health:
- Stay home and off transit if ill or have potentially been exposed to COVID-19
- Wear your face covering and ensure you keep both your nose and mouth covered (Metrolinx is raising money for United Way by selling branded masks)
- Wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitizer found on buses, trains and in stations when you can’t
- Download the COVID Alert App which has been pushed out to all Metrolinx phones.
Metrolinx has implemented over 40 safety actions to help stop the spread of the virus. The motto is very much, ‘safety never stops’.
And for a bit longer, neither will your bike tires.
